Ports & Nationalism

President Bush loves to deepen the hypocrisy. As a President that will go the extra mile to violate any suspected "terrorists" rights, Bush, however, didn't hesitate to hand over our countries ports to a UAE company.

I'm not one to discriminate, but why hand over an American port that employs Americans who need jobs over to a foreign country that is known to be a threat to security? Why not go ahead and give Saudi Arabia the White House key? These ports, all six of them, need to be held by the state and the jobs kept for Americans who need them.

"We're told nearly every day about the critical importance of the war on terror. ... That's why it's inconceivable and defies common sense to outsource the operation of our ports. ... This outsourcing causes great confusion and undermines the administration's credibility." - John Kasich

Wow, someone from Fox New actually makes sense. Somewhat.

Bush said in a recent stop in my home state of Indiana, that he wished the war on terrorism was over but it had to be kept up for the "security of the American people."

...and then he hands over our ports to a U.A.E. group.

...

Yes, I fathom the hypocrisy of these statements. The U.S. needs to keep foreign companies out of here, and our companies off of other nations.

FYI, before all this made the news, the ports in question were run by a London-owned company, Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation. Most ships putting in at US ports are foreign owned and foreign crewed, but over the years things have progressed rather smoothly and uneventfully. So the question of foreign entities owning our ports is rather moot at this point. I'd focus more on the idea of a country with a checkered past regarding terrorism having anything to do with our ports and what sort of security measures are in place.

Too add to the other comment Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation was bought out by UAE.

Do you know exactly the relationship the UAE has with terrorist or if any? Find out the truth and don't eat up the garbage the media feeds you.

Regarding what "some dude" wrote.

Two of the 9/11 terrorists were from the UAE. According to the FBI, money was transferred to the 9/11 hijackers via the UAE's banking system, and the UAE was one of only three countries to recognize the Taliban during its reign. Additionally, a Pakistani nuclear arms smuggler has used ports near Dubai as a key transit point for his shipments.

The UAE also eventually denounced the Taliban and today maintains that it is fervently against terrorism, and has additionally frozen quite a hefty chunk of change in terrorist funds and is now considered a strong US ally.

Some points for one to consider. I would agree with Some Dude's comment about finding out the truth on your own. The media often does have a slant, and I worry the reprecussions of losing a key Middle Eastern ally by blatantly blowing them off.

K, if you haven't read it already, pick up a copy of the 9/11 Commission Report. You can also download .pdf files of the book here. It's fascinating reading and I think you'd like it.
